The St. Lawrence County Health Initiative Office will be holding free workshops at hospitals throughout the county this fall to give chronic illness sufferers the tools to live better lives.
I Can Feel Better is a program that teaches adults experiencing chronic health conditions (i.e. diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, etc…) practical skills on managing them.
Trained volunteer leaders teach highly participatory workshops that take place once a week for 2 ½ hours for a six-week period.
Classes cover such topics as managing symptoms, medications, and difficult emotions, communication skills, the role of exercise and nutrition, and making treatment decisions with your medical provider.
Caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate.
You will receive a complimentary copy of "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions," the book we use in class, and a relaxation CD.
Average class size is 10-15 people, and refreshments are served.
To register, call 261-4760 x230.
Classes will begin:
• Star Lake Housing Community Room, Sept. 20, 10 a.m.
• Gouverneur, E.J. Noble Hospital Education Room, Sept. 20, 2 p.m.
