POTSDAM – Blanchard’s Auction Service, 1891 Morely-Potsdam Rd., will hold an art auction on March 30 for over 50 mid-century modern paintings by Eleanor E. Uffer, former SUNY Potsdam art professor.
The collection of art being sold is some of her earliest works and were done when she lived in New York City just around the corner from the Metropolitan Fine Arts Museum while studying at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Very few of her early paintings have ever been sold.
These paintings were discovered in an attic after her death by the gentleman who purchased her home and contents.
The oil paintings have a very distinctive style and unique characteristics with subject matter ranging from abstract figures dancing, children playing, to impressionist style nudes.
Uffer had held art exhibits in NYC along with several other states and her work has been purchased by both private and public collectors.
These paintings would work well in a contemporary or mid-century modern style setting.
