Father and daughter artists featured at art exhibit Friday in Potsdam

POTSDAM –The SLC Arts Gallery will soon feature a joint exhibit featuring still life studies and meditative landscape paintings by father and daughter Ray and Eve Whalen.

The exhibit opens Friday, Jan. 19, from 4-6 p.m. at the gallery at the Potsdam Town Hall, 18 Elm St., with a meet-the-artists event. During this event, there will be a "still life station" with art supplies for visitors to join in.

Raymond (Ray) Whalen is an art educator at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School. His daughter, Eve Whalen, is majoring in Environmental Studies and Animal Conservation at the University of New Hampshire. She took her first drawing class last spring, and much of the work in this exhibit was her student work from that class.

During the meet-the-artist event, visitors are invited to use a "still life station" set up by SLC Arts. An arrangement of objects with varying textures will be provided, with some art supplies available, for visitors to drop-in and experiment. Visitors are welcome to bring their own art supplies to join the informal community atmosphere.

This event is free and open to everyone, and wheelchair accessible. Visitors are encouraged to drop in any time during the two-hour event.

Art sales benefit the artists and SLC Arts.

This exhibit will be on display at the gallery through March 2.

The gallery is open during town hall business hours, Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
