CANTON — The public is invited to GardenShare’s Growing Community Reception at the TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., on Sunday, Jan. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The event will offer free homemade chili, cornbread, and cake. GardenShare representatives will present the award to Edwards-Knox Central and answer questions.
Edwards-Knox Central is being recognized for their ongoing commitment to the Community Eligibility Provision, which provides all their students access to free breakfast and lunch without household applications or stigma.
This event marks the 15th year of the Growing Community Award, which recognizes individuals or organizations doing good work to strengthen food security in the North Country. GardenShare has nominated farmers, school garden leaders, a growers’ cooperative, and farm-to-table restaurant owners, among others, in the past.
The award provides a reason for a fun community get-together – but it also allows GardenShare to endorse the unsung people and initiatives who are building a more just and sustainable North Country food system one step at a time.
