CANTON -- There will be a “Comedy Dinner/Dessert Theatre Show” at Canton United Methodist Church, 41 Court St., on Friday, Oct. 21 and 22 with dinner at 5 p.m., followed by a show.

On Sunday, Oct. 23 the show is at 2 p.m. followed by dessert.

Dinner includes veggie or meat lasagna, rolls, salad, drinks and make your own ice cream sundaes with brownies! The dessert theatre on Sunday will have many desserts and is all-you-can eat.

The cost for the dinner theatres is $15 for adults and $6 for ages 12 and under. The cost of the Sunday dessert theatre for is adults $10 and $5 for kids. Get tickets by calling Carol at 379-9709. Seating is limited. If the dessert and dinners sell out, there will be show only tickets available for $6.

Rev. Michael Terrell, pastor of Canton UMC and director of the show says proceeds from the show support many missions of the church and are not used for general expense.

“We have many wonderful ministries within the church both locally and around the world, and the funds will help us keep our commitment to those life-changing ministries,” he said.

This year, instead of the “Virgil” shows, the church welcomed a new family into the community – the Taylor clan of “Cricket County Academy”.

The hillbilly Taylor clan from Cricket County (the boonies of the boonies) came into a great deal of money when their penny pinching Uncle Zeke passed on tot he great beyond a couple of years back.

The ironic thing is that Uncle Zeke left his dear country family a lot of money. A lot of money that no one ever knew he had.

So, in an attempt to finally get his country cousins a decent education, Elkin Taylor decides to enroll his kinfolk in Gold-Leaf Academy, a highbrow private school close to the city.

An epic proportion of mishaps and misunderstandings are served up with hilarious results. It turns out, though, that the city folks learn a few lessons from the down-to-earth Cricket County philosophy. Proof that sometimes oil and water can mix quite successfully.

The cast consists of Julia Basford, Jeannie Blake, NaomiCrowell, Mary Egan, Connor Falen, Andrew Franklin, Amelia, Liam & Sarah Rodee, Madi Simser, Michael and Willow Terrell.
