MASSENA -- The Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center, Inc. are hosting daily nature hikes and kids crafts from July 1 through 5.

Each morning at 9 a.m., kids can go on a guided hour-long walk through the trails at the Nature Center and learn about some of the local flora and fauna.

The trails are gentle rolling hills, easy to hike for all ages.

Participants should dress for weather.

Closed-toed shoes and bug spray with DEET is recommended.

Because of the issue with ticks, it is highly recommended to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants (tucked into socks) when walking in the woods, and perform a tick check afterward.

Following the hike at 10 a.m., the Nature Center staff is hosting free craft classes for kids. Each day will be a new nature theme and project.

Tues, July 1: Track Books

Wed, July 2: Fish Prints

Thurs, July 3: Patriotic Painted Rocks

Fri, July 4: Leaf Printed Flags

Classes held under the big white tent at the Nature Center, 19 Robinson Bay Rd., Massena. Parents are welcome to stay, or pick the kids up at 11:30 a.m. Children under 5 need parents to assist.

There will also be additional craft classes at the Robert Moses Long Sault Campground Pavilion.

Fri, July 4: Firework Art, 2 to 4 p.m.

Sat, July 5: Straw Painting, 3 to 4 p.m.

All materials are provided, but pre-registration is required and class size is limited. To sign-up, call the Nature Center at 705-5022 or email ncrebirth@yahoo.com. For a full list of events, visit www.massenanaturecenter.org.
