CANTON -- Barb Heller will lead a two-hour "crash course" on playing music in a group setting at the TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26. The workshop is designed as an introduction to TAUNY's monthly jams, which focus on traditional fiddle tunes and American folk songs.
Participants will learn about time signatures, repeats, first and second endings, codas, and other musical terms that can befuddle a first-time jammer. Group playing and jam etiquette will also be covered. All levels of players are welcome and music will be provided.
The class is open to players of any acoustic fretted instrument, and participants should bring their own instrument. Cost for the workshop is $10 or $8 for TAUNY Friends. TAUNY's monthly jams are held on the first Friday of each month and will resume on Sept. 2. Info: www.tauny.org.
