POTSDAM -- The Crane Symphony Orchestra at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will present its first concert of the spring semester on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.
The orchestra will present "Peer Gynt: Suite No. 1, Op. 46," by Edvard Grieg, which the composer wrote as incidental music for Henrik Ibsen's play of the same name. The suite includes iconic movements, such as "Morning Mood" and "In the Hall of the Mountain King." The concert will conclude with Jean Sibelius's "Symphony No. 2, Op. 43 in D-Major."
This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
The Crane Symphony Orchestra is the second oldest college orchestra in the United States, and in its long legacy, students at Crane have worked with legendary conductors and musicians, such as Nadia Boulanger, Sarah Caldwell, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson, Gunther Schuller and Robert Shaw, to name a few.
Directed by Dr. Ching-Chun Lai, the Crane Symphony Orchestra is a premier, 90-member performing ensemble at The Crane School of Music. Later this spring, the orchestra will travel to perform alongside the Crane Chorus at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The concert will broadcast live at www.potsdam.edu/academics/Crane/streaming.
