Crane School recital to feature Robert Young and Julie Miller on Oct. 29

POTSDAM – SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School will hold a recital featuring Robert Young, a visiting assistant professor of saxophone alongside Julie Miller on piano Monday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Hall.

Young and Miller will present "Sonate en Ut #" by Fernande Decruck, before being joined by Julianne Kirk Doyle on clarinet for "Duo Sonata," a 2002 work by Crane School of Music composer Gregory Wanamaker.

Other works on the program include "Steady Study on the Boogie" by Christian Lauba and the Sonata in A-Major by César Franck, arranged for saxophone and piano by Jean-Yves Fourmeau.

Robert Young joined the faculty of SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music in Fall 2012. Young previously held teaching positions at Wichita State University, the University of Michigan, Albion College and the Ann Arbor School for the Performing Arts. Young has received numerous awards of regional, national, and international acclaim, such as semi-finalist at the 2009 Concert Artists Guild International Competition in New York City, silver medalist at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and third prize winner in the North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition.

He has performed with the PRISM Saxophone Quartet, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Charleston (S.C.) Symphony Orchestra and the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra. Young has been invited as guest artist and clinician at several colleges and universities across the country, such as the University of North Texas, Curtis Institute of Music, University of South Carolina, Furman University, University of Idaho, Minot State University (N.D.), Oklahoma State University and the University of Tennessee.

Young earned his Doctor of Musical Arts and his Master of Music degrees in saxophone performance from the University of Michigan. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of South Carolina in saxophone performance.
