POTSDAM -- In a celebration of the 70th anniversary of Olivier Messiaen's 1941 work "Quartet for the End of Time," The Crane School of Music will present a concert of the masterpiece composition Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m. in Hosmer Concert Hall.

Special guests for the evening include cellist Rebecca Hartka, pianist Yin Zheng, and violinist Anyango Yarbo-Davenport. They will be joined on stage by Crane faculty member Julianne Kirk on clarinet.

Dr. Gary Busch, professor of piano music history at Crane, will present a lecture at the start of the concert highlighting the complicated story behind Messiaen's work.

In 1940, Messiaen was held in a German prison camp, where he discovered among his fellow prisoners a clarinetist, a violinist and a cellist. During his internment, the composer wrote a short trio for the musicians. Messiaen and his friends first performed the work for their 500 fellow prisoners on January 15, 1941.

This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
