CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County League of Women Voters, one of the co-sponsors of the “Democracy at Risk” panel set for April 10 at 6:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton, will have a special “guest” in attendance.

A life-size wooden cut out of the great suffrage leader, Susan B. Anthony, will be on display for selfies.

Forum attendees who would like to "Take a Selfie with Susan B." can do so before or after the “Democracy at Risk” discussion on voting rights.

This non-partisan voting rights forum is sponsored by the Unitarian UniversalistChurch, the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County, the St. Lawrence County Branch of the American Association of University Women, and the St. Lawrence University chapter of the Vote Everywhere project of the Andrew Goodman Foundation.

One of the panelists, Kathleen Stein, Canton, who serves as president of the LWV of SLC and as the Public Policy chair for AAUW-St. Lawrence County, says, “This panel is unusual in that it will discuss democratic voting practices from international, national, state and local perspectives.”

Other Forum presenters will include: Alan Draper, government professsor at St. Lawrence University; Christina Xydias, political science associate professor at Clarkson University; Klaus Proemm, Canton village trustee; and Wendi Haugh, faculty champion of the Vote Everywhere project of the Andrew Goodman Foundation at St. Lawrence University.

The St. Lawrence County League is a nonpartisan political organization open to women and men that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
