County Arts Council has June classes in Potsdam in jewelry, music, more

POTSDAM – The St. Lawrence County Arts Council has jewelry and music classes just in time for summer.

All classes are held at Downtown Snell Hall in Potsdam.

Contact the SLC Arts Council to register and pre-pay for classes at 265-6860 or www.slcartscouncil.org.

• Beadwoven Herringbone Bracelet with Virginia Burnett – Saturday, June 4, noon-3 p.m. Herringbone is a beautiful and simple bead weaving stitch that can be modified for use in a multitude of projects. Larger size 8/0 seed beads will be used to create a supple cuff bracelet. Cost is $30 plus $15 for materials (includes instruction manual and size 8/0 seed beads).

• Simple Herringbone Bangle with Tanya Spicer – Saturday, June 18, 1-4 p.m. Students will work with size 6/0 seed beads using two different colors to make a simple, narrow bangle bracelet. This class will show students the versatility of the weave. Cost is $30 plus $10 for materials.

• Beginning Musical Improvisation with Josh Lazo – Sundays, June 5-26, 4-5:30 p.m. For all musicians who want to improvise but don't know how to begin. This class will use Volume 1 of the Jamey Aebersold book/CD series as the foundation for building improvisational skills. Intermediate competency on your instrument recommended. Cost is $60 for 4 weeks plus $20 for materials (includes required book).

• Beginning Guitar with Michael Welch – Tuesdays, June 28-Aug. 16. Learn guitar basics - string & note names, chording, finger picking techniques, structure, and basic theory from a folk music foundation. Cost is $85 for 8 weeks.
