WADDINGTON -- The “Let Christmas Begin” concert will be held Dec. 2, at 5 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.
The concert features internationally recognized organist, Sondra Goldsmith Proctor as she performs music of the season.
“In addition to being a wonderful way to start off Christmas season, concerts like these help showcase the beautiful organs in the area, many of which are pieces of history themselves,” said Ms. Proctor. “It is remarkable the number of beautiful organs that adorn churches right here in our communities.”
The First Presbyterian Church is home to a 1911 M.P. Möller pipe organ, which was built in Hagerstown, MD, and was a gift to the church by Andrew Carnegie.
Ms. Proctor currently serves as the Musician-in-Residence in Gunnison Memorial Chapel at St. Lawrence University.
For forty-five years, she served several churches in the Washington Metro Area, spending nearly three decades as the Director of Music and Arts / Organist for the West Moreland Congregational United Church of Christ.
She was the first woman to conduct a full-length organ concert in the Concert Hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. She has given numerous organ recitals and conducted various choirs in Europe, the Caribbean, and North America.
During the “Let Christmas Begin” concert, Ms. Proctor will be joined by Ad Hoc singers who perform regularly in Gunnison Memorial Chapel and around the North Country at special events.
The members are Alexandra Jacobs Wilkes, Julia Pomainville, Chris Rediehs, and Galen Pletcher.
Also performing in the concert are: violinist Abigail Evans, a second-year student at St. Lawrence University; Waddington resident, soloist, Amy Rivera; and piano student Kendall Rice of Waddington will play with her music teacher, Chris Paige.
The First Presbyterian Church is located at 13 Fenton St. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event. This concert is sponsored, in part, by Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and is part of Christmas in Waddington.
