Challenges people face when accessing health care and services in St. Lawrence County to be discussed April 13 in Canton

CANTON -- The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton is partnering with the AHI Performing Provider System (PPS) to better understand if there are challenges community members face when accessing health care and services in St. Lawrence County, particularly by the uninsured or those receiving Medicaid benefits.

“Ensuring access to care for all of our community members can be a serious challenge in our region,” said Dr. Eileen Raymond, Co-Chair of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton’s Social Action Committee. “It is important to identify the barriers facing many here in the North Country. We cannot begin to solve these problems without finding out what is keeping our neighbors from accessing the care they need. We hope folks will come out to share their experiences so we can work together on solutions."

The community forum takes place Wednesday, April 13, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3 ½ East Main St. Admission is free. Info: Jessica at jchanese@ahihealth.org.

The AHI PPS is a partnership of nearly 100 organizations, formed to plan for and manage Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) health care restructuring in the northern New York/Adirondack region. Through the DSRIP program, the AHI PPS is implementing 11 projects intended to address identified regional health and health care needs.

“Input and feedback from community members is an integral component of DSRIP project development,” said Jessica Chanese, AHI community engagement manager. “It allows the AHI PPS to develop relevant and effective strategies for meeting community needs.”
