Boat show, cardboard boat race July 16 in Cranberry Lake

CRANBERRY LAKE -- Saturday, July 16 the Cranberry Lake Boat Club and the Cranberry Lake Lodge join forces to host a combined boat show and the third annual cardboard boat race.

The boat show and the race are open to the general public. This year’s event will include music by Giant and the Green Foam, and an all-afternoon concession and refreshment stand provided by The Lodge.

New kayaks, canoes and boats will be on site for viewing, testing and purchasing, sponsored by Adirondack Lake and Trails Outfitters of Saranac Lake.

Area boaters are encouraged to display their antique boats, canoes, motors and/or boats. The new docks at The Lodge will allow individuals to display their favorite boat in the water. Then you will be ready after the boat show to join the annual parade around the lake.

Last year’s cardboard boat race attracted over 300 people. They are looking for new entries and new challenges among boat builders. Challenges are welcome from church youth groups, fire departments, student organizations within the school system, governmental agencies, healthcare facilities, restaurants, or simply challenge your neighbor.

How do you build a cardboard boat? Instructions and tips are at www.cranberrylakeboatclub.org. Click on upcoming events.

You can view last year’s race on the boat club’s Facebook page, fill out the registration form and get started.

Prizes will be awarded for antique boats and winners in the cardboard boat race.
