Farmers Dulli Tengeler and Katie Fagerlund of Birdsfoot Farm will hold outreach meetings with a slide show on community supported agriculture in Canton at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 7 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton, 3½ E. Main St., and at 7 p.n. Friday, April 8 at the Potsdam Civic Center Community Room at the corner of Park and Elm Streets. The event is open to everyone.
The presentation will be followed by presentations on food stamp payment option, $150 per share subsidy by GardenShare for low income households, and a question and answer session.
Members of Birdsfoot Farm's CSA buy shares of the farm’s harvest with a weekly pickup of fresh in-season vegetables and herbs at the farm, at the Canton Farmers Market, or in Potsdam, from the third week of June through October.
CSAs are mutually beneficial to farmer and community, providing members with nutritious fresh food at a reasonable price and the farmer with a secure season-long market. Tengeler says, "With the CSA I can send all harvested produce into good hands and don’t have to take it home after a long day of market."
This will be Birdsfoot Farm’s seventh CSA year. They will also have an option of a weekly flower bouquet and or extra leafy greens, as well as a winter season share with a variety of roots, winter squash and cabbage.
