POTSDAM -- Barb Heller will teach guitar classes starting in January at the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.
Heller is known around the North Country for folk singing and guitar playing and as the host of North Country Public Radio’s “String Fever.” She will offer a guitar courses for new players age 15 and older.
A beginner course will cover reading chord charts, basic strumming and basic music theory for guitar. The beginner course will meet Thursdays, Jan. 10, Jan. 17 and Jan. 24 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
She will also offer a course for more advanced players that will teach beginning finger style for guitar. The finger style class will be geared toward players who can already play a few chords and strum a bit. Students will learn to finger pick favorite songs. The class will meet Thursdays, Jan. 31, Feb. 7 and Feb. 14 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Both classes will meet in room 230 of downtown Snell Hall, 41 Elm St. The cost for the classes is $30 and students must have a guitar available for daily practice and lessons.
