CANTON -- Auditions will be held Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Aug. 27, 28 and 29, for children, teenagers and adults who would like to act in “A Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom,” a Grasse River Players production to be performed in the Canton Middle School auditorium at the end of October.

The humorous play, adapted for the stage by the Newberry Award-winning author Louis Sachar from his book, has roles for seven students who could pass for fifth graders and seven who could play adults.

There are four talking animal parts which could be played by puppets or smaller children.

Director Karen Wells has reserved space at the Middle School auditorium Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27 and 28 from 2 to 5 p.m., and Monday evening, Aug. 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., to give potential cast members an opportunity to display their talent.

The play addresses the theme of self-discovery from the perspective of a fifth grade boy, but its appeal is universal, Wells said.

Recognizing the conflicting time demands many students confront, the director said she will be taking sports schedules into consideration when planning rehearsals.
