Arts council to offer five weeklong art experiences in Potsdam

POTSDAM – This August, the St. Lawrence County Arts Council will offer five different weeklong, intensive arts experiences.

All classes are held on the second floor of Downtown Snell Hall in Potsdam except for the Master Class in Papermaking. Please call for directions to the Wake Robin Paper Studio. Pre-registration is required for all camps and classes. Please call the SLC Arts Council at 315-265-6860 to register or visit their website at www.slcartscouncil.org.

The camps include:

• Master Class in Papermaking with Velma Bolyard at Wake Robin Studio – Monday – Friday, Aug. 2 – 6 from 9 a.m.-noon. For teens and adults. Learn to make your own papers and books in this five-day class series at Wake Robin Papers’ hand-papermaking mill in Russell. Camp fee for 15 hours of instruction $150, plus $45 materials fee.

• Crazy Quilt Summer Camp with Virginia Burnett – Monday – Friday, Aug. 9 – 13, 6-8:30 p.m. Ages 14 and up, must know how to use a sewing machine to sew a straight stitch. Students will go home with the beginnings of a marvelous quilt or wall hanging, new skills in dyeing and embroidery, and a multitude of resources for learning more on their own time. Camp fee: $150, plus $25 materials fee. Please bring any special fabrics you would like to use in your crazy quilt.

• Summer Art Camps for ages 5-9 and ages 10-16 with Erin Pratt – Monday – Friday, Aug. 16 – 20. Ages 5-9 meet from 10 a.m.-noon, ages 10-16 meet from 1-3 p.m. Erin will lead children and teens in a variety of projects ranging from painting & drawing to sculpture & jewelry making throughout the week. Camp fee: $85 for five classes/ 10 hours of instruction.

• Film Camp with Dave W. Ferry – Monday – Friday, Aug. 23 – 27, noon-5 p.m. Teens and adults. Dave W. Ferry will guide students through a collaborative film making adventure. Register early to be involved in the pre-camp planning that will be needed for a successful project. Camp fee: $165 for five classes/ 25 hours of instruction.
