POTSDAM -- “Abstract Invitational” opens Friday, Aug. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the SLC Arts Gallery, 18 Elm St.
The group exhibit features abstract style paintings by local artists Ola Aldous, Kevin Beary, Pattie Lane, and Ray Whalen.
Aldous holds a BFA in painting from SUNY Potsdam and has participated in artist residency programs and won awards in juried shows around the country.
Beary, of Colton, recently returned from a trip to Italy where he published a 2015 calendar featuring his new works. In his cast paintings, he explores the tension between order and chaos, between geometric and organic shapes.
Lane graduated from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, with a degree in studio art. She lives in Potsdam with her husband, four dogs and four chickens.
Whalen, of South Colton, is an alum of St. Lawrence University and currently teaches art at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School.
The exhibit will be on display through Sept. 12 and is free. Info: 265-6860 or www.slcartscouncil.org.
