MASSENA -- The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will host a kick off event Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
The rally will be at Massena Meals on Wheels, E. Hatfield St. and will officially launch the 2013 season.
Activities will include a survivor speaker, luminary ceremony and snacks.
All money raised will go to help patients and find cures.
The Relay is an overnight celebration where groups camp out, picnic, dance, play games and take turns circling around a track “relay” style to raise funds for cancer treatment.
Hundreds of luminaria will be used to light the relay field, each lit in honor of a loved one who had or has cancer.
Started in 1985, Relay For Life began with one man who circled around a track for 24 hours, raising $27,000. This year, Relay For Life has grown to more than 5,200 communities and more than 25 countries worldwide.
