OGDENSBURG -- The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce will host its 12th annual Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, March 10, at the Dobisky Visitor’s Center, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. and costs $50, which participants often raise through pledges.
Plungers will begin jumping in at 1 p.m. and keep going until finished.
The Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad will be on-hand to harness the plungers and keep them safe during the plunge.
There will be prizes for plungers, and the plunger with the highest amount of pledges wins $500.
This year’s event features Polly the Polar Bear, a Badge Battle between local law enforcement officers and emergency workers, and Scaredy-Cat Club for those to scared to plunge who still want to help raise money for the two organizations.
There will be hot showers, snacks, drinks, raffles, trophies for the costume contest and lots of people to cheer.
Attendees at the event may bring a donation for the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA Wish List, including litter, laundry soap, bleach, trash bags, Purina Cat or Kitten Chow, Purina/Pedigree dog food, treats, blankets and towels.
The Polar Bear Plunge is sponsored by the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce and the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad.
The annual event garners a financial support from numerous community organizations and businesses in the week’s leading up to the first jump into the icy waters. This year’s sponsors include: Acco Brand, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, America 1 Realty, Carlisle Law Firm, CHMC Foundation, Corning, Ed & Ed Business Technology Inc., Frederic Remington Art Museum, Hoosier Magnetics Inc., Jones Insurance, Kimro’s Medicine Place, Law Office of Marcia LeMay, Mort Backus and Sons Inc., Natural Nook, Northeastern Signs (Mike's Trophies), North Country Savings Bank, Ogdensburg Save-A-Lot, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union and SeaComm Federal Credit Union.
