Waddington Kunoco Food Mart to close Friday

WADDINGTON — Waddington Kunoco Food Mart/IGA store, 150 Lincoln Ave., will close June 22, according to owners Stephen and Jacquelyn Kuno

The Kunos also own Kuno Oil Company and other Kunoco stores around the North Country.

“As we witness market changes all around, and many longtime businesses close their doors as a result, we too must adapt and make prudent financial decisions. That business model simply no longer works for us in Waddington,” said the Kunos.

“We thank our many wonderful customers throughout the years who have remained loyal shoppers, supporters and friends to our great staff at the Waddington store. From that perspective, and because we are a local small business employing local people, it is a very difficult decision that we must close our doors in Waddington.”

“We opened Kunoco’s doors 28 years ago. Throughout those many years, we have worked hard to offer employment opportunities and to support countless local community causes. Because of our terrific staff and our many loyal customers, our home heating fuel business, Kunoco, remains strong, as do our four other Kunoco Food Mart convenient stores, located in Canton, Colton, Parishville and Russell. Those four locations continue to serve as cornerstones in those communities; we’re very pleased and proud to be strong supporters of the people in those towns, as well as in the surrounding communities, here in the North Country,” said the Kunos.
