More than 100 entries showing the incredible diversity of wildlife in St. Lawrence County were received before the Dec. 1 deadline for the Nature Up North/St. Lawrence County Chamber Trail Camera Photo Contest.

A panel of judges has selected its favorite photos to make the final round. Now, it’s time for the public to help select the winner.

The contest is judged in two categories, Best Overall and Funny-or-Fascinating Wildlife Behavior.

The top four photos in the Best Overall category and top three photos in the Funny-or-Fascinating category are posted on the Nature Up North and St. Lawrence County Chamber Facebook pages (facebook.com/NatureUpNorth and facebook.com/Visit.SLC). The winner will be the photo receiving the most cumulative Facebook “Likes” between 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12 and midnight Friday, Dec. 19. Individuals can vote on both pages.

The winner of the Overall category will receive the grand prize, a Bushnell Trophy Cam HD. Category winners will receive gift certificates from Kunoco Food Marts, and second a third place winners will receive Nature Up North/St. Lawrence County Chamber apparel.

The panel of judges that reviewed all entries included Nature Up North and St. Lawrence County Chamber staff. They were joined by guest judge Julie Larsen Maher, staff photographer for the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). Maher also manages the WCS Wild View blog featuring outstanding wildlife photos and stories from some of the world’s top conservationists (http://blog.wcs.org).

The Trail Camera Photo Contest is sponsored by Nature Up North, a St. Lawrence University project promoting appreciation and exploration of the North Country’s wild things and wild places, and the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, dedicated to promoting tourism and awareness of all St. Lawrence County has to offer.
