Uber is now available in the North Country and Lyft will soon offer their ride-sharing services.
They mostly work through smartphone apps that find rides based on their GPS location.
People can register with Uber or Lyft to work as drivers.
Lyft will host a drive and passenger signup event Sept. 25 to 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the One Stop Career Center, 80 state Route 310, Canton.
An advertisement from the company says they will have ride discount cards at local bars and restaurants.
People without smartphones can also use Uber. They must register with the service, enable location-based services on their computer and go to m.uber.com .
Lyft is also offering incentives for new signups. Riders can get a free ride credit by going to https://www.lyft.com/i/StopDWI and drivers can get a signup bonus at https://www.lyft.com/drivers/StopDWI.
