CANTON — The 25th Annual Gateways to Careers event will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018, from 8:30 a.m.-noon at Roos House, on the SUNY Canton campus.
Gateways 2018 will give more than 1,100 students from all 18 school districts comprising the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES the opportunity to learn critical job-seeking skills including using how a professional résumé, proper attire, and a positive attitude can influence an employer.
The event is open to both juniors and seniors, and this year employers will have the opportunity to interact with more than 280 juniors and 900 seniors from our local schools.
Students across the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES region have prepared for Gateways by learning about résumé writing, creating potential employer lists, informational interviewing, and showcasing their projects and achievements through the use of a professional portfolio.
More than 70 area employers are participating in Gateways 2018 and representatives will evaluate each student on the basis of preparedness, attitude, skills and knowledge, and readiness for work.
About 400 students at a time will arrive at Roos House for one of three, 90-minute sessions. During that time, students can expect at least three mock interviews, with helpful feedback provided by the employers.
Along with area businesses, students will also have the opportunity to meet with college and military representatives. This event is sponsored by the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, New York State Department of Labor, and Penski Staffing a CorTech Company.
