WINTHROP -- The New York Small Business Association on May 6 honored 2 Mama Birds at their 18th Small Business Excellence Awards lunch in Syracuse.
“Small businesses are selected for the Excellence Awards based on their company’s longevity, innovation, sales growth, increased employment, ability to overcome adversity or community contributions,” the organization said in a news release.
Nance Arquiett and Brittany Murtagh, two stay-at-home moms, started 2 Mama Birds as a small home-based business.
“Today it is a thriving business that not only helps support their growing families, but the local artisans whose items are featured in the boutique,” SBA said.
The shop sells jewelry, candles, scarves and other gifts. Retail sales have more than doubled this past year. 2 Mama Birds also offers fundraising programs used by local schools, teams and charities.
Over $5,000 has been contributed to local charities, having what SBA describes as “a significant impact on the community.”
