Year-to-date Seaway shipping totals are down from the same period last year despite total transits remaining relatively flat, with the exception of liquid bulk shipments.
According to the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, total cargo is down 5.32 percent, from 22,410 year-to-date at this point last year and 21,218 for the same time period this year.
Grain is down .56 percent from 5,877 tons to 5,844 tons.
Iron ore is down 13.17 percent from 4,252 tons to 3,692 tons.
Coal is down 15.16 percent from 1,823 tons to 1,547 tons.
Dry bulk is down 11.65 percent from 6,595 tons to 5,827 tons.
Liquid bulk is up 24.98 percent from 2,027 tons to 2,534 tons.
General cargo is down 3.04 percent from 1,784 tons to 1,730 tons.
Total transits are up by one, from 2,433 year-to-date last year and 2,434 for the same time period this year.
