St. Lawrence County lost jobs in May while New York state overall gained positions, according to the state Department of Labor.
There were 38,800 non-farm jobs in May and 38,900 the same month last year, DOL said.
To our east in Franklin County, there were 18,900 non-farm jobs last month and 18,700 the same month last year, a 1.1 percent gain, DOL said.
To our west in Jefferson County, the number went to 43,400 last month from 43,200 the same month last year, a .5 percent gain, DOL said.
Meanwhile, New York state overall gained 148,700 jobs, which is a 1.6 percent gain, DOL said.
