St. Lawrence County has the highest unemployment rate in the state according to recent numbers released by the state department of labor.
The county’s unemployment rate is 6.9 percent. The county lost about 600 jobs in July this year compared to the same month last year she there were 39,000 people employed.
The number of people receiving unemployment benefits in St. Lawrence County rose from 2,800 in July of 2016 to 2,900 in July 2017.
In Franklin County the unemployment rate rose slightly from 5.2 in July 2016 to 5.3 in July 2017.
In Jefferson County the rate rose from 5.4 in July 2016 to 5.5 in July 2017.
