St. Lawrence County gained 200 more non-farm jobs in October compared to one year ago, according to the state Department of Labor.

There were 42,500 non-farm jobs last month, compared to 42,300 in October a year ago. That is a .5 percent increase, the DOL says.

To our east in Franklin County, October non-farm jobs dropped by 200. They had 19,400 compared to 19,600 in October 2013. The DOL says this is a 1 percent drop.

The number stayed flat to our west in Jefferson County. The DOL says they had 42,800 non-farm jobs in October 2013 and 2014.

The unemployment rate statewide in October was 6 percent, and 6.4 percent outside of New York City. That compares to 7.4 percent in October 2013 statewide and 6.6 percent outside of New York City the same month, the U.S. Department of Labor said.

St. Lawrence County unemployment rates for October are expected to be released later this month.

The nationwide unemployment rate for October was 5.8 percent, compared to 7.2 percent a year ago, the USDOL said.
