CLIFTON -- Dan’s Hauling and Demo, Inc, will abate and demolish several buildings at the former Jones and Laughlin Site in the Town of Clifton.

The county legislature approved the agreement Monday at special board meeting.

The $585,000 project will be jointly funded with help from Empire State Development, the Dormitory Authority, the Development Authority of the North Country, National Grid, the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency, St. Lawrence County, The Damoth Fund and the Town of Clifton.

The former mine closed in the late 70s and in now owned by the County.

The Industrial Development Agency will assist with the financial management for the project, while the county planning office will monitor progress and bring updates to the county board.

Major financial contributions for the project come from DANC with a $250,000 redevelopment grant, and National Grid which is providing a Brownfield Cleanup Grant of $146,875.

Other major contributions come from Empire State Development, which has committed $87,500 and DASNY, which has committed $50,000.

The remainder of the funds will come from the RVRDA, the Town of Clifton, the Damoth Fund and St. Lawrence County.

This funding will cover the first phase of a project plan developed by DANC.
