After a two-year period of not promoting Personal Care Aides to Home Health Aides, Potsdam-based Health Services of Northern New York (HSNNY) has promoted seven PCA’s to HHA’s through training. The training allows the aides to provide a more complex level of care to patients.
“This group has proven to be dedicated and caring employees that receive wonderful feedback from our clients,” says Matt O’Bryan, HSNNY Administrator. “It is a wonderful feeling to be able to reward these employees with continuing education and an increase in pay, it is well deserved.”
Throughout the training the aides learn a variety of new skills and information including: ostomy care, blood pressure monitoring, oxygen use and safety, nutrition, and patient rehabilitation. The class is also visited by guest speakers from Lincare and Hospice.
Said participant Tanis Archer, “I learned a lot of really great information and it is really going to help me in my job.”
