POTSDAM – The Robot Zone, a company that provides a fun and interactive ways for K-12 students to participate and learn about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) is slated to open in April.

Students will be able to work with various robots and new forms of technology including 3D printing, said CEO Amanda Clapper.

They provide after school and weekend programs at their 71 Market St. location and will host summer camps in the future.

“We are so excited to bring STEM education to the community and give STEM education for all ages a local, hometown feel,” Clapper said. “We are inviting all to come see what we have to offer our local citizens, and we think they will be amazed at what we can do.”

The Potsdam Chamber will host a ribbon cutting for The Robot Zone Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m. to start off their grand opening celebration. Following ribbon cutting, attendees can check out the various technology on site.

“We want to become the go-to location for students and community members to learn about and experience new emerging technologies. We’re offering something that most towns the size of Potsdam would never have the opportunity to host. It’s completely one-of-a-kind,” Clapper said.

Guests will enjoy hands-on STEM activities and robotics demonstrations for children and adults, and 3-D printing of objects using one of seven onsite 3-D printers.

The Robot Zone, a locally owned science, technology, engineering, and math education firm, was able to open the new location with support from Clarkson University and Clarkson’s Shipley Center for Innovation.

Working closely with the Northern New York Robotics Academy at Clarkson, the opening of the retail office location, which spans more than 3,000 square feet of space, gives

The Robot Zone ample room to help students design, build, test, and implement robots onsite and includes 800 square feet for competition practice and robot activities.

With the new space, the company will be able to host its own series of scrimmages and practice matches for their various members throughout the year.

There is no cost to attend the grand opening but there are membership fees once they are open,” Clappers said.
