POTSDAM – After weeks of speaking with potential buyers, the owners of St. Lawrence Chocolates will close its doors next month.
“We talked to several people who were interested, however, either they couldn’t get financing, or just weren’t in a position to take on something else at this point in a sluggish economy,” said owner Ellen Nesbitt.
Tom and Ellen Nesbitt had to make the tough decision to close the six-year old business and call it quits for now. The store, located at 4 Main Street, will begin going-out-of-business sales in the coming week to liquidate all product, equipment and furniture. “Everything will have to go,” Nesbitt said.
“We grew the business from 12 flavors of creams, when we first opened in December 2006, to 26 creams and 12 flavors of truffles,” said Angela Ballou, shop manager. “It’s been a lot of work, but we had some fun along the way.”
The doors are expected to be closed by Black Friday; the day after Thanksgiving.
“We have so appreciated all of the support and business from the people of Potsdam,” said Nesbitt. “We know there are a lot of people who are as disappointed as we are. We had many regulars who we are going to miss seeing. To everyone we would just like to say ‘Thanks for six sweet years.’”
