Potsdam's Clarkson names new engineering school dean

POTSDAM -- Bill Jemison, vice provost for research and chair of electrical and computer engineering at Clarkson University, has been named dean of the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering, effective July 1.

"After an open process, that included nominations, public meetings, and gathering extensive feedback, Clarkson was fortunate to have Bill rise to the top of a very strong field," said Senior Vice President & Provost Chuck Thorpe. "His experience as vice provost for research gives him valuable insights and connections as we seek to grow graduate programs and research programs within the Coulter School. We look forward to working with him as we build the momentum in our engineering programs and reputation."

To continue to influence the work that he has done as vice provost for research, President Tony Collins has asked that Jemison also work as special assistant to the president. In that capacity, he will help organize university-wide efforts, such as its partnership with the Trudeau Institute and membership in the New York State Smart Grid Consortium, the school said.

Jemison's research interests include microwave photonic systems, antenna design, radar systems, wireless and optical communications systems, lidar systems, and biological applications of microwaves and photonics.

He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Drexel University, his master of science degree in engineering science from the Pennsylvania State University, and his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Lafayette College.
