POTSDAM -- Building Blocks Day Care suffered another setback last week when the board of directors had to let go new director Maryanne Jadlos and an executive assistant because they couldn’t be paid.
The day care center board voted Tuesday night to terminate the two employees. There is now no one in the office of the troubled center on Outer Market Street, behind Snell’s Office Complex.
“They had no money and couldn’t pay us,” Jadlos said.
Jadlos had been on the job for about a month after she was chosen to replace former director Marlene Pickering.
When the center closed, many workers were laid off.
About 60 children and their parents were at loose ends to try to fund other arrangements when the center announced last month they would have to close due to a lack of funds to continue.
The future of the day care center remains in serious doubt as they try to dig out of a financial hole that was revealed last month. The extent of the center’s debt is still being explored, according to officials.
