NORWOOD — Perry’s Market, 58 Springs St., has been sold.

Rick Gilchrist purchased the business from Sue Perry Aug. 10.

The store, which used to be called Perry’s Big M, will now be known as Perry’s Market, he said.

Gilchrist, age 32, said the Perry family had owned the grocery store for three generations and that he was happy to continue it as a family-owned business.

He did not expect any major changes in staff saying that he wants the “best possible employees and staff.”

Gilchrist previously worked as the vice president of Cornerstone Services in Norwood. He left that job when he made the decision to pursue buying Perry’s after hearing that it was for sale.

“I fell in love with the Norwood-Norfolk area from the amazing people, family culture and beautiful landscape,” he said. “I sought for an opportunity to put down roots here and become part of this wonderful community.”

Perry’s offers most everything one would expect to find at a grocery store, including a meat department, fresh produce, a bakery and deli. They sell some ready-to-eat foods such as pizza and breakfast sandwiches.

“Perry’s used to be known for their meats 25 years ago and we are going back to that,” he said.

Gilchrist plans to offer a variety of marinated and seasoned meats.

“This grocery store has, in one way, shape or form, been an integral part of this community for generations, and I saw it as a legacy worth continuing,” Gilchrist said.

Gilchrist, originally from Boston, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from SUNY Canton. His wife Catrina is a native of Madrid.

“There is a lot to learn for me … but I am going to do my best to keep this around for a long time,” he said.

The store is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“Our goal is to be the most convenient one-stop shopping location for our residents with great prices, outstanding quality products, and a small town customer service experience,” he said.
