OGDENSBURG – With no proposals to lease Ogdensburg’s Dobisky center’s café, City Councilor Jennifer Stevenson says the city should consider using the space for a museum.
Ogdensburg City Manager said the city has received no proposals yet, despite extending the deadline.
The kitchen has struggled to keep a regular operator since its construction. Despite its location and negotiable price, it has not been leased since 2013.
The kitchen is 389 square-feet in size and includes basic commercial kitchen equipment and appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, grill, fryers and a stove.
Stevenson said the city should consider selling the equipment, since it isn’t being used and there is lack of interest from entrepreneurs.
Councilor Michael Morley supported the idea. He said the café has failed to turn a profit for the city or leasers.
Stevenson said Ogdensburg has a wealth of history and many items that could be displayed remain in storage.
She said the city has been riding a wave of interest on social media and the city could capitalize on this with the museum. Stevenson said it may also serve as a way to market the city to visitors.
