OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Parks and Recreation Department pool will open June 16 at noon with no admission cost until 2020.

Swimming will once again be free this summer thanks to a donation Pepsi Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers.

The company will cover the cost of all children and adult pool entry fees during public swimming for this and the next three summers. They made their initial donation in 2017 as part of its 75th anniversary gift to the City of Ogdensburg.

The donation will cover expected revenues from pool entry fees.

The company “continues to demonstrate their commitment to the community of Ogdensburg with their latest donation. It’s extremely appreciated and the youth of the city will appreciate it the most,” said Parks and Recreation Director Matthew Curatolo,.

The pool is open Tuesday to Sunday from noon - 6 p.m. and is closed on Mondays. The following are programs offered at the city pool this summer, with registration taking place at the Dobisky Center, 100 Riverside Ave.:

• Swimming lessons will be offered for all skill levels. The instructors are fully certified and will offer the standard swimming lesson program. Each child will be placed in a half-hour time slot determined on the testing days. The lessons are for children 4-14 and will be held Tuesday through Friday from 8-11:30 a.m. Testing and group assignments will be held June 27-29. Lessons will be held from July 2-Aug. 3. Cost is $25.

• Infant Toddler Swim Program - This aquatic program has been developed to acquaint infants and toddlers ages 6 months to 4 years old to the water and as an introduction to the pre-school aquatics programs. Its goal is to make the children comfortable in and around water and introduce some safety skills. The swimming companion will be taught how to utilize various holds and techniques to help the child get acclimated to the pool. There will be two swim instructors conducting classes and helping all the participants. Requirement: parent, guardian, babysitter or responsible adult must be willing to accompany child in the water. The swims will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to noon July 3-26 at the municipal pool. Cost is $15.

• Early Bird Swimming Program - This adult-only program is on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:15-7:15 a.m. from June 18 through Aug. 17. Cost is $65 a season or $3 a day.

• Pool parties - The department is now booking pool parties from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays from June 16 to Aug. 19 at the Elsa M. Luksich Municipal Pool. The two-hour span would occur prior to public swimming opening at noon on the weekends. Cost will be $50 an hour.
