OGDENSBURG -- The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce has named Robert “Storm” Cilley their 2018 Citizen of the Year.

Cilley “has been active in the City of Ogdensburg and surrounding communities for many years – he taught Driver’s Education at OFA for 30 years – he has coached Varsity Softball – been an active member of the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad since 1981 – he has served on the City Council and the Charter Commission, as well. Storm believes in supporting his community and strives to make Ogdensburg a better place to live and raise a family,” the chamber said in a news release.

The chamber’s 2018 Business Improvement Award will be awarded to Julie Hooper, owner and teacher at Julie’s Dance Studio on State Street in Ogdensburg.

“Julie recently bought and revitalized the former Ogdensburg Rescue Squad building –moving and expanding her dance studio. She opened part of the dance studio to the Small Fry Academy Nursery School – effectively housing two businesses. Each business continues to grow more every year. Julie also encourages her parents and families to visit the businesses downtown like the Remington Art Museum, Phillips Diner, Ogdensburg Public Library, Cam’s Pizzeria or the Blind Pig Bistro in between classes which has a positive impact on the community,” the chamber said.

The 2018 Outstanding Community Service Award will be awarded to CGSW Racing which includes members Connor Sutton, Gary Hammond, Scott Wright and Will Wheeler who sponsor duathlons and triathlons in the Ogdensburg Marina District.

“Each event brings visitors to Ogdensburg – exposing them to our beautiful city and waterfront district our city has to offer. By sponsoring these events, CGSW Racing they have added to the economic vitality – encouraging their racers to frequent local businesses for accommodations, dining, shopping and points of interest in the City. The mission of CGSW Racing is to encourage an active lifestyle for everyone in the North Country – while raising small amounts of funding for various causes like Hurricane Harvey Relief in 2017 and the Signal 30 Benefit fund in 2018,” the chamber’s release said.
