On April 16th, the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce was on hand to assist in drawing the lucky winner, Health Initiative Inc., nominated by Amber Clark.
Pictured above, from left, are Northern Insuring Agency’s personal lines senior sales executive Beck Tessier, nominator Amber Clark, sales executive assistant Terri Phillips, president and CEO of Northern Insuring Agency Deena Giltz McCullough, Health Initiative executive director Anne Marie Snell, and commercial lines sales executive Tanya Krise.
Amber’s passion for the local non-profit comes from her personal experience with the prior SPORT program that was offered by the Health Initiative.
“The Supporting Peers Options to Resist Tobacco (SPORT) program was supported by various funding sources including the NYSDOH, the E.I. Moses Walk/Run for Life and the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau. SPORT was the only tobacco cessation program in St. Lawrence County that helped teens to quit using tobacco,” said Snell. “Using an eight week evidence-based curriculum, SPORT offered services to both individuals and groups. In addition to providing cessation services, the program provided schools and community groups with educational presentations illustrating the danger of tobacco use.”
While that particular program is no longer active, the Health Initiative will use the donation to fund their Cancer Services Program (CSP).
Amber agreed this is a great place to direct the funds as her mom has recently had a couple cancer scares, said a press release from NIA.
According to their website, The Cancer Services Program (CSP) of St Lawrence County works to decrease rates of cancer and cancer mortality among uninsured people living in St Lawrence County. The program mission is to provide breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening, diagnostic and case management services for uninsured and underinsured people residing in the St Lawrence County.
