POTSDAM -- North Country This Week will move to a larger office and inserting facility later this year.
Major renovations have begun at 4 Clarkson Ave., which formerly housed The Computer Guys and McNamara’s Family Restaurant. When complete, the building behind Kinney Drugs on Maple Street will provide more room for office staff, a loading dock for receipt of advertising inserts, and close to triple the amount of space for inserting and processing of papers.
“We’ve been bursting at the seams in recent years as the number of employees has grown,” said Publisher Bill Shumway. “Currently, we don’t have room to squeeze in one more desk in the office.”
In addition to more office space, the new location will make it easier to receive and process inserts.
Contractor is Fearlbridge Builders of Winthrop, owned by Matt White. Renovation plans call for a new roof, windows and siding, as well as new flooring and lighting on the interior. The renovation will include construction of a new entrance, employee break room and new bathrooms as well as a loading dock.
Expansion of parking areas both in the front and rear of the building is also planned.
Purchase of the building from Prime LLC of Watertown was completed on Nov. 30, 2017.
North Country This Week has been located since 1994 at 19 Depot St., which had previously been the home of the Wok Inn Chinese restaurant. For ten years before that, the newspaper offices were at 38 Market St., on the third floor above the former Town House Restaurant.
The business employs 20. Another 10 people deliver the paper to virtually every household in Potsdam, Norwood, Hannawa Falls and West Stockholm every Tuesday.
