New thrift shop opens in Norfolk

NORFOLK -- North Country shopping options now include a new thrift shop.

Deanna Dennis and Janel Colbert, both of Norwood, recently opened Cart & Barrel Thrift Shop at 42 West Main St.

Both women are stay at home moms with large families, but Dennis and Colbert were ready for a new challenge.

“We wanted to open a store that everyday people can enjoy and find something at a great price and feel pride in their purchase, that they’re supporting a local business,” Dennis said.

Their first commitment is still to their families, as reflected in their selective hours. art & Barrel is opened every Thursday-Saturday from 11am to 6pm.

“Family is first, for both of us,” Colbert says, “but we are excited to bring a thrift store to the town of Norfolk.

“The storefront we are renting has been vacant for over 30 years,” Colbert said. “It’s exciting to have the privilege to bring life back to a building that has been in the community for a long time.”

What can you find at Cart & Barrel? A little bit of everything. They will carry everything from furniture to art pieces and fine china. The owners also love the idea of reinventing and re-purposing old items.

“We have always enjoyed thrifting … you never know what items you’ll find and at discounted prices,” Dennis said. “Thrift shopping is one way we can reclaim something that was unwanted into a treasure for one of our shoppers.”

Both women say they consider what they would want to pay for an item, and price accordingly.

“A lot of people just want to find a great deal and we hope to offer just that!” Colbert said.
