Major expansion in Canton should improve health care access in area, says CPH

CANTON -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital says its major expansion of the E.J. Noble Medical Building will improve health care access for North Country residents.

CPH says its central location in the county “offers patients convenient access to expert medical care close to home.”

The 12,000 square foot addition to the original Noble Hospital building, which opened in May, houses nine medical providers. A two-story connector that links the two buildings and houses a community meeting room is nearing completion. Re-bricking the exterior of the EJ Noble Building will also be finished this fall.

The expansion was designed to provide much-needed space for physician practices and outpatient services.

“To meet the needs of the community, the Hospital has recruited more than a dozen new physicians to the area in the past few years, and continues to recruit medical staff in primary care and specialty care,” an announcement from C-PH said.

The complex has hospital-based and private physician offices for family practice, general surgery, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, podiatry, psychiatry, and urology. In the new addition, nine providers are practicing in three of the four suites, while one suite is reserved for a specialty care practice the hospital plans to recruit to the area.

The hospital’s Afterhours Primary Care Clinic, outpatient physical rehabilitation, laboratory, cardiology, and imaging services continue to operate in the EJ Noble Building, as does North Country Public Radio, Beltone Albany, and SLIC Network Solutions.

The hospital says re-bricking of the Noble Building will improve its environmental quality, fixing moisture penetration concerns while adding insulation.

Renovations to existing space in the Noble Building will occur once the hospital completes its plan.

The $2.5 million Noble Building expansion “is one of three significant construction projects that Canton-Potsdam Hospital has undertaken simultaneously to accommodate unprecedented growth,” the statement says.

The other projects are the recent renovation of the former St. Mary’s School building at 49 Lawrence Avenue in Potsdam to house physician offices and outpatient services, and the new comprehensive Center for Cancer Care, adjacent to the hospital, scheduled to open this month.

The Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation is conducting a capital campaign, Constructing Healthier Communities, to provide financial support for these initiatives.

While still in the early stages, the campaign has succeeded in raising more than $1 million in pledges to date, according to C-PH.
