POTSDAM — The Potsdam Chamber will present the Pride in Potsdam Community Award and the Citizen Honor Award as part of its annual dinner on Nov. 16.
The Pride in Potsdam Community Award will be presented to Jazzercise and the Citizen Honor Award will be awarded to Tim Carey.
“Jazzercise owner Jane Khondker has been dedicated to fitness and sharing her knowledge of fitness and dance with the community of Potsdam since 2000,” Potsdam Chamber Executive Director Marylee E. Ballou said. “She supports many local events such as fitness and health awareness week at Potsdam Central School, and contributes to Fright Night and Summer Festival. Jazzercise has hosted fundraisers for Hurricane Victims in Houston as well as the Potsdam Holiday Fund.”
“She is a business owner who sees her business as an opportunity to do what’s right…it is not a vessel for profit as its main goal,” stated one nomination. Jazzercise has also provided accessible classes for people with disabilities. “I don’t do it alone,” Jane stated, “I have so many great people along side me.”
Tim Carey will receive the Citizen Honor Award.
After 30 years, Tim recently retired after begin part of the Potsdam Recreation Department as director.
“Mr. Carey enjoyed working with the youth of the community and seeing them learn new skills like swimming and ice skating,” Ballou said.
The Potsdam Chamber’s Annual Dinner will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Barben Rooms at Clarkson University’s Cheel Center.
A Mixer begins at 6 p.m. and the dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $35 per person for the buffet dinner.
