PARISHVILLE -- An “informal” meeting hosted by Iberdrola Renewables will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Parihville Town Hall, according to Parishville Town Councilor Shirley Robinson.

Officials from Iberdrola Renewables say this is the first of what will be many public meetings to discuss the company’s plan to establish a wind farm in the area.

“This will be an opportunity for us to talk about the project and the permitting process and where we are at,” spokesperson Paul Coppleman said noting that there will be years of work to do before it’s completed. “It’s important that we keep the community involved in the process.”

When asked why no public notice had been made regarding the meeting, Coppleman said he believed the company had reached out to the Watertown Daily Times and other area media outlets.

Robinson said she believes the meeting will allow the public to hear from the wind company officials regarding potential development, but said she was unsure of the details. She noted that the town has held countless meetings regarding Iberdrola’s plan to establish a wind-farm within the township over the past several years.

As town offices are closed on Wednesday, attempts to reach Town Clerk Connie Maguire and Town Supervisor Rodney Votra were unsuccessful.

Robinson said Iberdrola officials, not the town council, will host the informal meeting but depending on who attends, a quorum may be present.

Iberdrola has been considering bringing turbines to the Parishville and Hoplkinton area since 2011. After several years of inactivity, the company recently said that the project had moved up on its development list.

In the past Iberdrola had also sought to construct wind turbines in the Town of Hammond. After years of resistance from a divided community the company decided to withdraw its proposal.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend, according to Coppleman.
