POTSDAM – The Front Porch, 7283 U.S. Highway 11, opens Saturday, Oct. 22 offering antique and vintage goods, furniture, lines and home décor.
The business is owned by Julie and Gary Murray
They opened the business as they both head into retirement and were looking for something to fill their time and fill a void in the community, Mrs. Murray said.
The store held a soft opening over the summer as a way to ease into the grand opening.
“It has been really busy so far for nothing being formally announced,” she said. “Word of mouth has been great.”
The building that The Front Porch is in was previously used by a man who made cabinets and refinished antiques.
“It has a nice feel to it …old rustic building with a hometown feel,” she said.
Murray said she and her husband made quite a few changes to the building including work on the well and some cosmetic work too.
The furniture comes from people’s homes, estate sales, and during travels to other parts of the country.
The store will be open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Additional hours will be announced on their Facebook page if they plan to open during the week.
“If I have a section to redecorate and I will be in the store, I will announce that people are welcome to stop in,” she said. “The flag will be out.”
Murray, her husband and their children will all work at the store.
Murray said she felt the location was a good choice because a lot people come to Potsdam for the hospital and Walmart.
“I really like the idea of bringing the community together and connect people with what they need,” she said.
