CANTON -- The “Hiring Your First Employee” workshop for farmers will take place Wednesday, Feb. 11, will be shared via webinar at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 2043 B State Highway 68 from 1 to 3 p.m.
There is no charge.
The course will cover payroll accounting, minimum wage, withholding, general work agreements, worker’s compensation, unemployment insurance, youth hiring rules and rates, termination, quarterly and annual report filing requirements.
OSHA safety regulations, dangerous jobs, Right to Know and training will also be covered.
Instructor Peggy Murray, a farm business management specialist with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson and Lewis counties, says, “This course is critical for anyone thinking about hiring employees for your farm for the first time. Putting proper measures in place for items such as payroll and learning what reporting is required can help you hire and maintain a strong work force that will benefit your business.”
