Family nurse practitioner joins CPH Afterhours Clinic in Canton

POTSDAM -- Family nurse practitioner Rachel Raven has joined the medical staff at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, and is seeing patients at its Afterhours Clinic in the E.J. Noble Building, 80 East Main St., Canton.

Raven holds a master’s of science in nursing degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Health Professions in Syracuse, where she completed her family nurse practitioner training in May, 2011 with a minor in education. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing degree, also from SUNY Upstate Medical University, in 2009. She received her associate of science in nursing degree from Excelsior College in Albany.

She earlier earned an associate in applied science degree from Jefferson Community College, Watertown, in 2006, and her licensed practical nurse degree from St. Lawrence-Lewis County Board of Cooperative Education Services Southwest Technical Center in Gouverneur.

Raven’s family nurse practitioner experience includes Carthage Area Hospital, where her primary practice site was the Edwards Knox School Based Clinic. She also practiced at Harrisville Family and School Based Health Clinics. Her family nurse practitioner student training included Edwards Health Clinic in Edwards, Gouverneur Pediatrics and Gouverneur OB/GYN in Gouverneur.

She previously served as a staff/charge nurse at E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur. She practiced home health nursing throughout Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties as a self-employed private Medicaid nurse.

Her career also includes nursing positions at Health Services of Northern New York in Potsdam; Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown; Sibley Nursing Center in Watertown; General Healthcare Nursing Agency in Stuart, FL; Atlantic Healthcare in Vero Beach, FL and Heritage Health Center in Utica.

Nurse practitioners are highly trained advanced practitioners who collaborate with physicians. These nurses can also serve as their patients’ sole health care provider and run their own private practices.
